World Sight Day 2018 – “THE RIGHT TO SIGHT” Walk
This year, The Volunteers for World Sight Day is pleased to partner with the T&T Blind Welfare Association, Advocates for the Blind and Vision Impaired (ABAVI) and Persons Associated With Visual Impairment (PAVI), for our flagship Walk for Sight event. All proceeds will be donated towards supporting the amazing work that these organizations undertake.
The World Health Organization Global Action Plan 2014 – 2019 seeks to reduce avoidable visual impairment by 25% by the year 2020. The Walk for Sight contributes in large part to local efforts to achieve this WHO goal, by raising awareness about the causes of avoidable blindness.
The Walk for Sight will take place on Saturday 13th October, 2018 commencing at the Grand Stand of the Queen’s Park Savannah, at7:00 am. The $100 registration fee for the Walk for Sight (half price for children 12 and under), allows free access to Blind People Can Cook Too (3rd Edition) which is organized by Advocates for the Blind and Vision Impaired (ABAVI). The ABAVI “Cookout” will commence at 10:00 am, immediately following the Walk for Sight. Other event activities will include vision screening, glaucoma screening, blood sugar testing, blood pressure testing and blindness simulation exercises.
