Dr Shailendra Sugrim – Adjunct Assistant Professor School of Medicine
Dr. Sugrim is a graduate of the School of MedicineUniversity of Guyana, School of Medicine who completed his bachelors of Medicine and Surgery in 2001. He went on to complete his three-year Ophthalmology training in Chittagong Bangladesh through a Scholarship from ORBIS. He completed his one year Glaucoma Fellowship in Bangladesh and New York. He further went on to complete his Masters in Surgery ChM (Clinical Ophthalmology) from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He currently works as Consultant Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma Specialist in the Department of Ophthalmology of the Georgetown Public Hospital,
Georgetown, Guyana. He also lectures for the School of Medicine and Optometry of the University of Guyana. He was integrally involved in leading the development and
implementation of the Guyana Diabetic Retinopathy Screening and Treatment programme of which he was appointed Clinical Director in January 2016.
