Dr. Camara Brown completed MBBS at the UWI Mona Campus. She completed her FRCS in 2012 subsequently travelling to the UK for subspecialty training in both Medical Retina and Glaucoma.
She returned to Jamaica and was appointed to lead the Glaucoma subspecialty clinic at the Kingston Public Hospital in 2018. Dr. Brown is currently the clinical lead of the Jamaica Eye Study- in collaboration with Dr Jessica Cooke Bailey and Dr Michael Hauser. The study focuses on Afro-Caribbean patients, investigating the clinical, socio-economic and prognostic features of glaucoma in Jamaica.
Since then she has presented locally and internationally: at the World Ophthalmology Congress 2022, the American Public Health Association conference 2022, International Society of Eye Research 2023, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology 2024.
Dr. Brown’s goal is to increase awareness of this serious and sight threatening condition both within our region and internationally. She served as treasurer of the Ophthalmological Society of Jamaica from 2019 to 2024 and is the current AAO/PAAO LDP delegate representing OSWI. She has a fierce commitment to community and collaborates with various charitable societies and Non Govermental organisations- most recently the Jamaica Society for the Blind.
In her spare time Dr. Brown enjoys cooking with her family, reading, hiking, visiting museums and doing pilates.
